PILLOW TOP ASSEMBLY

1. Lay out the appliquéd pillow inset and the 42 squares as shown.

2. When you are happy with the arrangement, join the squares into rows; then join the rows.

EMBROIDERY

Refer to Embroidery Basics for detailed information. Use 2 strands of embroidery floss for all embroidery.

1. With the water-soluble fabric marking pen, use the Hello Fall Pillow embroidery pattern (below right) to mark the lettering and the Hello Fall Pillow oak leaf appliqué pattern (below) to mark the swirls onto the pillow inset. A lightbox or other light source is helpful.

2. Layer the pillow top, batting, and lining fabric. Baste.

3. Backstitch the lettering on the pillow inset using dark brown floss.

4. Backstitch the swirling marked lines through all layers using tan floss.

QUILTING

1. Quilt the pillow top as desired. The featured pillow was machine quilted ¼˝ along both sides of each seam, stopping or starting at the inset as necessary and knotting the thread ends at the back (lining side) of the pillow top.

2. Trim the batting and lining even with the pillow top.
